Bed of roses?

Yes, life truly is like a bed of roses. While you admire the beauty of the roses there is the occasional sting! But with time you learn to handle it with much more care. Moreover, for those of us who acknowledge Jesus as our hero, our friend, our Lord n Leader we know He makes it all worthwhile. I have my share of ups n downs in life, maybe even more than the normal amount  Wink as I sometimes feel. But  I'd have it no other way because it gives me so much that I can talk to Him about. And while we (Jesus n me) have our cherished conversations I feel like a millionaire, theres so much to learn from Him and He makes it so wonderful that even in your pain there is a kind of sweetness, in your misery there is a kind of light, in your lonliness there is always a lingering sense of His presence... and that is the true joy of having Jesus as a personal friend. Its not only about healing or success or power or miracles or even visions or prophesy! It is about feeling special, feeling loved by God Himself. You and I are so precious to Him that he always has His eye on us.

It's like being in love for the first time...minus the uncertianity of human companionship. When you share a deep and personal relationship with Jesus its always beautiful. Its like finding an oasis in a desert, or a most beautiful rose among a huge bush of thorns, or a friend in a room full of strangers. Jesus did not promise us a necessarily good / easy life here on earth but He said He'd never leave our side and He always keeps his word.

God delights in seeing us smile.....so keep smiling its the best way to please God.

True Christian Witness

Those of us who claim to be close to God, to know Him or to be His followers have a great responsibility on our shoulders. How we behave and conduct ourselves on this earth (even behind closed doors) affects our entire profession of faith. Showing one face in public while hiding our true selves behind a mask, save for those who know us all our life is not going to take us anywhere. I know some people who claim to be close to God but live a dual life. I too have done it in the past, I am making a great deal of effort to rid myself of still inherent traces of this deceptive manner of living which is far from being a trait of Godliness and more like the trait of the great deceiver the Devil himself. But as I look around me I see that some are not even aware of this kind of duality in their lives!

They don’t realize that this brings more of harm done to those we must witness to rather than helping even our own spiritual growth. We must learn to live Christ’s teachings interiorly before we aspire to teach or preach to those around us. Our greatest desire should be to become as docile as clay in the hands of our creator and then only can we co-operate with Him in shaping the lives of others.

This kind of docility can be attained only when one becomes first a good student. A student understands that he is weak and must be taught, he does not feel qualified to change the world with just a trickle of enlightenment that the haughty assume to be a flood of knowledge. The student is aware that this is only his admission into the school and if he must harbor dreams of being a successful teacher some day he must first be an excellent learner himself (God provides great graces to those who are willing to humble themselves under His giudance, one does not have to be highly intelligent, humility is the key factor that opens the floodgates of wisdom). Then when he is ready enough he will be called!

How many of us want to be fortnight teachers, unwilling to be students first and thus due to our own folly we lead many downhill if not astray, we discourage in the long run when our job is to encourage and uplift. A good student is one who is tested and tried often along his journey to becoming a well qualified representative of whatever he is training in. He knows well his strenghts and shortcomings he does not deny his failures but works on them that they may be overcome. Through all this training he becomes a sensitive, compassionate and wise teacher, he is able to deal with a vast expanse of things. His students respect him, look up to him and idealise him because he understands them, their problems and difficulties and is also able to provide them with much insight at how to overcome these hurdles, because he has been through it all himself. The world is in desperate need of such people. Today the world lacks inspiration, the inspiration to love, to care for, to be good and kind and considerate. Only someone who is inspired from deep within, whose life and actions, words and deeds are all compatible with his christian beliefs can inspire the world; the rest will come and go and have no effect. And what better inspiration than the life of Jesus himself. Come then, let us seek Him, find Him, love Him, draw from Him, follow Him and not do so alone but with a trail of people whose lives we have touched by doing what pleases Him most (loving God and neighbour)....This and only this is true christian witness.

House of Prayer or hideout for thieves?

Jesus went into the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the  stools of those who sold pigeons, and said to them, "It is written in the scriptures that God said, 'My Temple will be called a house of prayer.' But you are making it a hideout for thieves!" - Matt21:12-13.

Now Jesus is not really against buying and selling. But in this case He sees that people had made the temple a place for business dealings and money making rather than respecting the sanctity of the place as it was meant to be a house of prayer, a dwelling for Gods presence. If we apply this passage of scripture to our own lives we find a lot of similarity.
Heres how: Every baptised Christian is a temple of the Holy Spirit. But when the guardians of the temple (ourselves) neglect this fact and adopt worldly standards we become instead a hideout for thieves. The thieves that hide therein are our own evil and selfish desires. We begin to do everything with a motive of self-gain, just like buying and selling. Even towards God we develop a relationship of bargain and business-like dealing. Nothing that we give, be it love, friendship, help to a needy neighbour, etc is ever done with purity of intention.
But when you invite Jesus into your heart and aspire to live by His standards as opposed to those set by the world, He will drive out the thieves and make it a house of prayer, a holy dwelling and He Himself along with God the Father and the Holy Spirit will dwell there.

Where God Himself dwells there is no place for evil or impurity. Your heart will become a beacon of light showing others the way, your words will be a refreshing breeze to the wearied soul, your mind will be a vessel of wisdom and understanding, your countanence shall shine with a joyful fervour exuding a charm beyond this world. Your whole being will be like a lamp that shines through the darkness. Be blessed then and make your choice...What will it be A House of Prayer or a Hideout for Thieves?

For a generation that likes the facts, how about this one?

What is it that this world needs today?
While it moans and groans
And shakes at its core

Not peace, not freedom
Nor riches or wealth
The world needs selflessness
And love to heal its wounds

Not Leaders who speak fine words
that decieve while hiding the truth
But leaders who are willing to die
for the people whose trust they claim

Leaders who are willing to serve
and not live off the yokes
they put on the shoulders of poor men

Not weapons of mass destruction
Or strategies of war
but hearts that are true and pure
For none of our weapons can save us
from what the world is about to behold

Not Armies of defence
And great tactics of war
Nor vast scientific research
That promise a better living standard

Not new means of pleasure
At the cost of innocent lives
"I shall enjoy, even if I have to kill for it"
Thats an attitude that stinks!!!!

Great lengths are taken
To encourage and fulfill our selfish needs
Amazing inventions and innovations
That amount to nothing in the end

Man has become so proud of his
Discoveries and inventions
We think we know it all
Enough to keep us alive forever

Proud enough to think we can fool death
And even run ahead of time!
But where are our inventions and our
Intelligence when disaster strikes???

Can we fight the rising wrath of the sea?
Or the strength of the raging winds?
Or the power of the lightning that strikes in seconds?

They conspire against us
To show us that all our strength and intelligence
Amounts to nothing
And all we do is stand and watch in awe

What they leave behind is the true picture,
Helplessness and suffering
That is all our selfishness will earn for us.

How we busy ourselves wasting our wealth
On how to destroy and conquer
Rather that how to provide for one and all
We fail to see those who die hungry on our streets.

And mother earth will continue to teach us,
Her deviant and selfish children untill we learn to submit
To the authority and supremacy of God our Father
Wish we were only willing to learn!

Love makes it easier

Do you imagine it was easy
to be flogged for your sake or mine
To be nailed to a cross
And shed blood like wine?

If it was easy
Why would He ask the Father
To let it be taken away?
Knowing what He would suffer
He decided to Obey.

He sweated drops of blood as He
saw what was to come
Yet His words in Love to the Father rose
"Not mine but Thy Will be done."

Only because love made it easy that day
Love gave Him the power to suffer that pain
The love He has for us didn't stop Him from the fact
That some of us ignore Him and make His sacrifice for us in vain.

So let us obey His commandments complled only by Love
Let us treasure the sacraments and the words He spoke
Complled only by love...

Let us do good and not harm
Even to those who do not mean us well
Motivated by love alone
For love makes it easier
Love makes one strong
So make love your reason
To do right instead of wrong.

God bless.

For those who believe...

We' got time for the T.V.
We' got time for our friends,
We' got time for the movies
and time to borrow and lend

We' got time to just be idle
and time to whistle a tune
We' got time to grumble and whine,
To admire the stars and the moon!

We' got time to compose poetry
and sing odes to the one we love,
We got time to hear the birds sing
and time for games n fun!

We got time to make our selves busy with all the work we can do
But no time for the One who made us,
And gave us the time we use for all that we love to do.

So if you believe in the Creator who spent love and time on you,
To make you special and bless you with all that you admire
Spend a little time each day to love Him back it will be good for you.

God bless......

True Virtue!

The greatest strength of endurance lies in true virtue! And it is obvious in the life of this saint:

(St. Gerard Majella)

When Gerard was 12, the sudden death of his father made it necessary for him to leave school and to begin to work. His mother apprenticed him to a tailor so that he could follow the trade of his father. His employer took a strange dislike to him and often showered him with blows and curses. Gerard accepted the persecution as being permitted by God for his spiritual good. Once he was seen to smile even while he was being beaten, and when asked about this, he said: "I was smiling because I saw the hand of God striking me." After his apprenticeship as a tailor, Gerard served for some time as a houseboy for the Bishop of Lacedonia, who was recuperating in Muro. Again he manifested the virtue of patience by silently bearing the irascible temper of this otherwise worthy man. During this time one of his early miracles took place. One day he accidentally dropped the key of the house in the well. With saintly simplicity he lowered a small statue of the Infant Jesus into the well. To the amazement of the onlookers, when Gerard raised the statue the lost key was held in its hand.

Prayer:

My God, I am such a complainer in times of trial. Do forgive me. Give me the kind of piety that you blessed your saints with. Give me the most sweet virtue of patience, for I lack it a great deal. Let me be inspired by the life of the saints and let me have the courage and the deep desire to imitate them as I struggle even to imitate Christ my dear Lord. Amen.

Ps:Personally I always feel double determined to cling closer to Jesus and to follow in His footsteps when I reflect on the lives of the saints. I therefore reccomend that anyone who aims at being close to God or to loving Him deeply should read regularly the lives of the saints.

A treasure called 'peace'

"It is better to lie hidden and take care of yourself (interiorly) than, neglecting yourself (the state of your own soul), to work even miracles!"

Imitation of Christ

So Change yourself before you venture to change the world.

Reflect on the lyrics of this hymn:

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers and sisters are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment, NOW!
With every step I take let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be at peace therefore and flee from all anger and unforgiveness, for these things kill peace. Let peace rule your heart and mind, so that whomsoever you encounter that same peace may touch. Do good to those who persecute you and bless those who curse you - for this is the way to find peace and to spread peace.
Spend therefore time in reflection and cultivate peace within your own heart by removing all the things that hinder the growth of peace. True peace comes only from God so to get you started...May the peace of Christ Jesus be with you.

God bless.

Its Sad

It's sad that people search for peace all their life
But show them the source and they laugh at you.

It's sad that they'll do anything to find happiness
But tell them the only way and they wont believe you.

It's sad that people desire so much to be loved and find true love in life
But ask them to take the road you took, and found that truest kind of Love, they'll ignore you.

It's sad that people wear themselves out searching for some meaning in life
But they dont know what they're really looking for!!

The bottom line ultimately is, no matter what you're looking for in life there is only one answer:

"Our hearts are made for you Lord and they'll never find rest untill they find their rest in you."
- St. Augustine.
